Soho Restaurant - Runcorn Plaza | 258 Warrigal Road, Runcorn QLD 4113

Frightened by negative reviews, I was reluctant to set foot in Soho Restaurant, but it was much better than expected. Unlike similar Hong Kong style cafes, it was clean and comfortable, and the staff was relatively friendly :).

What I like most about HK style cafes is that you get a choice of 2 daily set meals for an extremely affordable price. For only $10.80, I got a Russian Soup, Chicken Steak in Black Pepper Sauce with Rice, and an Iced Milk Tea (+$0.5).

The Russian Soup was rich in flavour, and came with delicious chunks of tomatoes, carrots, celery, onion, potato and beef.

The generous portion of Chicken Steak was tender, succulent and coated with thick peppery sauce which made your senses tingle with delight. However, it was served lukewarm which made the sauce slightly "gluggy".

The Iced Milk Tea was brewed with strong frangrant tea but unfortunately spiked with excessive amounts of condensed milk, making it sickly sweet.

We also ordered the Portugese Style Baked Seafood Rice and the Saucy Beef Slices (around $15 each).

Baked perfectly golden and topped with generous servings of mussels, calamari and scallops, the Portugese Style Seafood Rice looked quite tempting. Although I enjoyed the flavours (to a certain extent), I wasn't too sure what was so Portugese-style with this dish as the curry flavours which were supposed to be in the sauce were WAAAAY too bland.

Next came the Saucy Beef Slices. The beef was soft and moist, but it was smothered in sauce which was a tad too savoury for me.

Verdict:
Mixed feelings. A mixture of good and the not-so-good.
