Ribs and Rumps - 540 Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006

Where can you get good ribs and rumps? Just go to Ribs and Rumps in the valley. Famous for its large rump portions and fall-off-the-bone ribs, it's the perfect meatopia.

Do they REALLY serve Brisbane's Best Ribs? Well, we're about to find out.

The relaxed casual atmosphere with the funky splashes of red makes it perfect for any occasion.

Service was quick and friendly - we were seated promptly and given bibs and wet tissues. The friendly staff even tied on our bibs for us :D - talk about great service!

The menu featured entrees, ribs, steaks, burgers and desserts, but only one thing caught my attention - the Meat Your Match Challenge ($85). 1kg Grain-Fed MSA Man O War Rump Steak and A Full Rack of Juicy Ribs (beef, lamb or pork) with fries. If you eat the entire meal by yourself, you get a VIP card which gives you 10% off and your very own steak knife - wow! So, I decided to do a practice run and swapped my chips for baby potatoes instead (if you are doing it as a challenge, you MUST get the chips. Not negotiable.).

The Lamb Ribs were slow-cooked in a sweet marinade, and then flame-grilled with a sweet barbeque saucy glaze - which gave it a delicious chargrilled bbq flavour yet it was still tender and juicy, and the meat fell off the bone! No wonder they are famous for their Ribs!

The grain-fed MSA Rump was packed with natural beef flavours and grilled to perfection. I'm not a fan of rump because it's generally quite tough and chewy but the rumps here had a firm texture and a bold flavour.

Perfectly medium rare with a reddish glow

For a piece of rump, it's pretty good but it was quite dry as it doesn't come with any sauce. To my dismay, you need to add another $3 for a small pot of sauce :( - you can choose from Tangy BBQ Relish, Creamy Garlic, Creamy Mushroom, Peri-peri, Creamy Pepper, Aioli or Extra RNR Basting.

There just wasn't enough Basting on the rump, so I had to get an extra mushroom sauce. It was creamy and came with a few slices of thinly sliced mushrooms but it lacked mushroom flavours. It was also cold :(.

Cold creamy mushroom sauce for an extra $3.

OUTCOME OF CHALLENGE:
The Food Extinguisher failed miserably. After the full rack, I was already bloated :(. FAIL.

Verdict
So are they really Brisbane's best ribs? Well I'm not sure, but it's certainly better than any of the ribs I've tried here so far. Juicy, tender, and packed with delicious flavours.

Their rumps taste decent for a piece of rump but I really don't like the fact that it doesn't come with complimentary sauce.
