Toowong French Patisserie - 9 Morley Street ,Toowong QLD 4066

Being well aware of my love for chocolate, Sis Extinguisher bought me a Chocolate Truffle Gateau from the Toowong French Patisserie for my birthday. Although the patisserie doesn't look very French from the outside, they offer authentic French style cakes inside.

Inside this massive box lies a delicious Truffle Gateau Cake ($49 for 12 serves or $39 for 8 serves).

Layers of chocolate Genoese sponge separated by white and dark chocolate meringue mousse. Topped with rich, creamy ganache truffles sprinkled with delicious dark chocolate shavings.

Truffle Gateau ($49)

Unlike soft and fluffy sponges, the Genoese sponge is dry but airy so that it can soak up the liqueurs and take on that flavour. I'll recommend that this cake be left in the fridge overnight to allow for the mild liqueur flavours to seep evenly throughout the cake. The genoise sponge in my first slice hadn't soaked up the liqueur properly, so parts of the sponge felt somewhat dry and coarse. But I tried it again the next morning and it was deliciously moist with a delightful liqueur aftertaste.

Make sure you leave it overnight to allow the
liqueur flavours to seep through!
